FAQ

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle hands-on energy technique. The word Reiki (Ray-Key) is Japanese for Universal Life Force Energy but its roots are in the ancient Chinese medicine concepts of life energy (chi) flowing through our bodies along pathways (meridians), much like blood flows through our veins.  The chi energy concept is also the foundation of yoga and tai chi.  Reiki, like acupuncture and acupressure, restores health and balance by facilitating the flow of chi through our bodies.  While chi energy is all around us and flows through each of us the flow may be diminished by stress or injury.  When this happens our bodies don’t function as well and are more prone to illness.  Reiki treatments channel energy to restore the flow, promote healing, and provide an overall sense of well-being.

What should I expect during a Reiki treatment?

You remain fully clothed and may choose to lie down on a massage table or sit in a chair while you receive Reiki.  A treatment consists of a series of gentle hand placements on or just above your body.  You may feel warmth where Karen places her hands, a tingling sensation, or nothing in particular.  Regardless, the energy flows where it needs to go and most people feel very relaxed at the end of a session.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

Reiki provides a deep level of relaxation, and can help reduce stress and anxiety.  It can bring relief from chronic health conditions including chronic pain. It also promotes healing after surgery or injury.  While Reiki should not take the place of medical care, it can complement medical treatments while providing a sense of empowerment in supporting one’s own natural healing process.  Reiki can also help relieve some of the side effects of medical treatments such as in cancer care.

Reiki can facilitate the emotional and physical transitions for a woman after childbirth . It can also provide a soothing bonding experience for new mothers/fathers and their babies.

Even if you are feeling perfectly well Reiki can facilitate an improved sense of inner balance and well-being.

Reiki works equally well for pets. It can be very calming for animals who are experiencing stress.
